Hi, my name is Abimbola. I stay in Houston, TX and I have four years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love helping people. When my mother was sick, I was the one taking good care of her. I really enjoyed it, so it is not a problem to me taking care of her. After that, I decided to go into it. That is what I have passion for and from then until now, I'm still enjoying it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to put your love to what you enjoy doing. To be hardworking, to be focused, to have good heart in taking good care of your client and to put all your mind in what you're doing. Let them know, let people around you know and the clients know how good you are in your job.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is this late now Mr. Jones. When I was working in assisted living, He was really nice and the family too was all nice. I enjoy working with him because I treat him like my father and the family too, they didn't treat me like the caregiver. They took me as one of them. I remember when he died, I was crying like a baby. Even people around were thinking, "What happened? Is he your dad?" I said, "No, he's a client that I love so much." I miss him and I miss the family. It was a great family to work with and I'll always remember every moment I work with him.
