Hi, my name is Adoria. I have been a caregiver for 4 years and I'm from Fort Worth, TX.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I took care of my dad. I took care of him for two years. I used to work with my mom. Starting out doing caregiving, I watched her as I grew up. I've seen how she did everything and I saw how she treated one another and how they loved to be treated. I love helping people and making them smile. As I watched my mom and grew up, I wanted to take over in the field in caregiving. I also took care of my dad once again for two years and after he died I just continued in caregiving.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, treat one another how you want to be treated. I learned how some clients just really want love. They really just don't want any help. They just want somebody around and do a little bit of work for them. They just want real happiness. You know want to be happy and feel like they are still here.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Wanda. She was a very nice lady who was paralyzed from the waist down but she always cared for me like I was one of hers. She always offered me food and anything I would get for her, she would always ask me if I'd want any of it.
