Hi, my name is Ahlexus. I live in Long Beach, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
A few years ago, my great-grandma, she got sick and she didn't have anybody to take care of her so eventually what I started doing-- I would go over there, wait for food, bathe her and everything. Then from there, I just knew that's what I wanted to do and that's what I've been doing.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just stay focused, don't get discouraged, if they tell you you're doing something wrong, just try your best to shake it and just remember, they're kind of like little kids. You got to pay close attention to them and you've got to stay watching them because anything can happen.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable moment would be with my very first client, Miss Barbara. She was so caring and her family was so nice. She would always try to help me when I was just starting out, she taught me a lot and I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for her and even on my off days, I would go over there and just sit with her and talk with her.
