Hi, my name's A'Janay. I live in San Diego, CA and I've been a caregiver for about three weeks now.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because two years back, I had a very traumatic incident that happened to a very close family member and I couldn't help. So now, I like to help and give back to my community. And just help the elderly or the people that need help with medical care or health care in that manner.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be just to work hard and do what your job description asks you to do. And just always make sure that your client is comfortable with the situation that they're in now. And constantly ask them if they're okay. If they need any help with anything, just reassure them that you're here for their health, and you're here to help them get better.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Mr. Lao. I met him on Super Bowl Sunday. And when I met him, he just kept complimenting me and saying that I was very helpful to him. And I helped him in a lot of ways. And I actually met his family. His family kept thanking me for helping him in his condition. And that was a very heart warming to me because that made me feel like I was doing my job as a caregiver. And I was doing what I was supposed to be doing, making my client feel at home, and making them feel like they're wanted, and just be there for them.
