Hello. My name is Alaina. I live in Pasadena, CA and I've been a caregiver for six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I'm very inspired by my mother, who was a hospice carer. Over the years, I've always looked up to her for how good she is at her job and how caring she is towards others. It just makes me want to be a better caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be remember to be as patient as possible. Remember that your clients or patients are going through a lot right now, and also their families, so a little kindness goes a long way.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget, her name is Edna. We spent a lot of time together over the years, me caring for her in her home. Over the years, her health really took a toll on her physical body, so she wasn't able to walk around like she used to. One day, we went out and we decorated her wheelchair. We put tons of bows and ribbons on it, and we really made it special for her. Because even though she was in a situation that wasn't exactly how she wanted it to be, we made the best out of it, and you could see her attitude got so much better.
