Hi, my name is Albin and I live in Los Angeles, CA. I've been a caregiver for about six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I started off as a caregiver because I wanted to go ahead and help elderly people, the people that was in need. I started off when I was 18, so I always had said, "That could be me one day. I'm going to get old," so that's how it started.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver will be not to take anything personal and also always keep it professional to whatever the circumstances are, to always look for the benefit of the patient and be there for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget will be-- he was very, very aggressive when he came into the facility where I used to work at that time. And along the years - he was there for four years - everything changed. He didn't trust anybody when he started going there. And after a couple of months of me working there, he started trusting me. And he fell comfortable with me, and he became closer to me. And one of the reasons why I will never forget him is because he would trust me, and also because he was very, very, very, very loveable and funny. And he was a very smart man who had done a lot of things for our society and here in the city of Los Angeles.
