Hi, my name is Alexis and I live in Walnut Creek, CA and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother became ill and I had to be her caretaker and eventually, I went into a senior facility and decided to do that as a living. Ever since then, I really enjoy working with elderly people and following their needs.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and give the elderly choices of what they would like to eat or what to wear. It's always great to listen to what the elderly or your resident would like.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Someone who I will never forget is a lady named Arletta. I would go into her room and she would always, always give me cookies and tell me if I had any kids and I would show her pictures of my daughter and she would always give me little things for me to take to my daughter since she did not have any kids, but she had cats and dogs. So when I would go in, she would always have something small for my daughter.
