Hi, my name is Alexus. I live in Bay Point, CA and I have been in caregiving for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandmother who suffered from dementia. I've also worked in plenty of non-profit agencies and did caregiving for autistic children. I saw that I was really good with it. So I just continued to pursue it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to make sure that you have effective communication. It is good to effectively communicate with both the client and relieving staff so that everyone is on the same page and the care is persistent and effective.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Lisa. She suffered from dementia and we spent a lot of time together because I was doing live-in, and I worked for 72 hours with her. We spent a lot of time in the house, running errands, and we just had a very strong bond being that I was there so much with her.
