Hi, my name is Alicia. I live in Fresno, CA and I've been a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was younger, I used to always see my mom take care of my grandma and a couple of my grandmas, actually. So it just inspired me that I want to do the same. And now I don't have any grandparents left, so I'm using this job to be there for a client and they are probably going to be there for me as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, to be caring, and to be very understanding that the person you are now taking care of is way older, not able to do as much. You're going to have to do more, but it's also a very giving experience for both you and the client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Rick. Rick was the funniest client that I've had so far. Jokes on everybody and every serious topic you bring up, Rick joked about it. He had a very amazing sense of humor, and I try to have an amazing sense of humor myself.
