Hi, my name is Alisha. I live in San Antonio, TX. I have caregiver experience for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have always had a passion for taking care of people and their well being. I've always strived to make sure that everybody that I come in contact are well taken care of. And it's just always been my passion.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen. The best thing that you can do with any of your patients is listen to their wants and their needs and their precautions for what they believe is safe. Also, that you are doing things that are safe. And when you don't know, it's never bad to ask a question.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Jillian. She was one of my first clients that I had. She had Alzheimer's and her family had decided to put her in a care facility for only a few hours. And she would tell me stories of the 1960s. And growing up as an African-American woman, I connected with her. And she would tell me things about life and how they turn out. And at that time, I was deciding if I was going to be a nurse. And she really helped me. I'll never forget her.
