Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name's Alisi. I live here in San Francisco and I've been a caregiver for six years. I got into caregiving as a young girl taking care of my grandparents. When I migrated over here to America, caregiving just felt like a normal thing to do because I'm so used to taking care of elderly people. It just felt right.
Who was one of your favorite clients and why?
One of my favorite clients was Doris. Doris was a horse trainer and we would travel all over for her profession. She lived to be 96. One of the rewards of taking care of her was that we'd get to go to different derbies like the Kentucky Derby, Santa Anita Derby, etc. I really liked traveling with her.
What do you like best about being a caregiver?
I like listening to elderly people tell their stories. Listening to someone who has 95 years of incredible stories is something that I really enjoy. Seniors seem to be a forgotten age. With technology these days, and everything being so advanced, we tend to forget about our elderly. I like spending time with them and making them feel like there's someone here that still cares about them and still wants to listen to what they have to say.
