Hi, my name is Alma. I live in Pittsburg, CA and I've been working as a caregiver for 15 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am a person who is loving, compassionate, honest, trustworthy, and also I have the skills with regard to being a caregiver that I can really do my duties and responsibilities with confidence.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to be dedicated to work, be honest, be responsible, be trustworthy, be compassionate, and make sure that you have the skills to do your job as a caregiver. Take good care of your client and also make the most of what you can with a tender, loving care. Also, make sure that the patient you are taking care of is safe, because safety is the most important.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Merlin. He's a homeless patient who was admitted San Francisco General Hospital. I was able to clean him up, to give him food, and at the end of the shift, he was so very happy asking me if he can see me the following day.
