Hi, my name is Amanda. I live in Palo Alto, CA. I have 16 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of myself. I put myself in those people's shoes. I was in a hospital for six months with a heart disease and I don't have family, so I was alone. Nobody was there to give me a cup of water and that's why I got inspired to be a caregiver. And I love all my clients. I love my job.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver is that you have to be very responsible, very respectful, compassionate and love your job. Be on time on your job and love your client as you love yourself. Put yourself in their shoes.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will never forget and will always stay in my mind is the lovely lady in hospice care. I worked with her until the last minute. She was always telling me thank you. She always thanked me for everything I was doing for her. Her family were very appreciative of me too and I miss her. Miss her but you have to be professional and keep going in helping others.
