Hi, my name is Amber. I live in Costa Mesa, CA, and I've been a caregiver for over a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love being of service to others. Everything that I enjoy doing involves being there for others. I got my experience from volunteering at a nursing home, and it just did something to me to make me feel whole to be able to have a purpose, selflessness.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always follow with your heart, empathy, and compassion, and you can't go wrong. Always remember that this is someone's mother; this is someone's father; this is someone's aunt or uncle. And just remember that it could be one of your relatives or it could be you. Always be kind and follow with love and kindness.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ms. Fran. She kind of lost her will to want to live longer. She lead a long life. She was 92. And it was fun being able to share companionship with her, and let her feel like she's here for a purpose, whether it be to bring joy to family, or someone, or even myself, and just to get to know her, and be there for her, and watch her grow even at 92 was amazing to me.
