Hi, my name is Amy. I live in Nuevo, CA and I've been caregiving for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have always had a passion for helping the elderly, as well as children and it recently started when my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I would care for him daily. I had started working in assisted living and had also been working in an in-home care.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to never give up on your patient. They are human just like everybody else and all they are looking for is the love and support from another person, to be by their side through their times of need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget, her name was Jean. I had worked with her for a year and a half and every single day that I had showed up at her house, the smile on her face and just her greeting me, even though as days went by, she slowly started losing her memory. The disease she had developed with had progressed and gotten worse. Just the smile seen on her face was just completely heartwarming and knowing that I'm there helping her, just meant so much more.
