Hi, my name is Andrea. I live in Panorama City, CA. I have four years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom had Alzheimer's. So, I started taking care of her. It was about four years ago. Nobody really could take care of her, so I stepped in and took care of her for two years. She's not here anymore. She's gone. But, anyway, it was a good experience and it's just made me more humble to love older people and I just continued being a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just be patient. They're older. Always be by their side. Always watch them. Give them activities or just go outside and take them out. Because they're always inside the house. They always need someone to be there for them and for someone to care about them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name is Christina. I used to work, about a year ago, in assisted living called Mountain View. Well, one time her daughter came in and said that I was very nice to her mom. So, one day she came up to me and told me if I would take her mom to her grandson's wedding, which I did because the grandson wanted her mom there. And I just had a bond with her daughter, and her of course, because I used to be her caregiver.
