Hi, my name is Andrea. I live in Los Angeles, CA. I just graduated my course which was in CNA, HHA, R.N. and I have a CPR license as well.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I used to volunteer a lot at assisted living facilities and senior homes when I was a travel agent two or three years ago and I just realized that was my sole passion. I loved talking to them and hearing their stories, helping them and making sure they had the best time available when I was with them. Now that the travel industry is kind of going down hill, I'm changing my path in life and I took the CNA course. I'm going to continue my education by becoming an RN as well, but in the meantime, I'd love to help our elderly at either a hospice or as a HHA,(Home Health Aide). I just love spending time with them and I'm passionate about that and talking to them and learning about their lives, it makes me whole. I love that.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have a caring heart. To make sure that when you get into this, that this is your passion. You love to help people, especially the elderly who have taught us so much. We need to give back now in their time of need. Just make sure that this is a passion for you, that you love to do this, and you really, genuinely, authentically love being around our elderly.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
When we had our clinic duties, we would visit an assisted living facility and a school nursing facility and there were some wonderful clients there that we fed and we took their vitals.
