Hi, my name is Andres. I live Santa Barbara, CA and I've been a caregiver CNA for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to help people. I love to talk to them, make them company. I didn't really think this would be my career but once I got into it, I loved it. I like working with them, helping them out, talking to them, making them feel safe and taking care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen what patient wants, have lots of patience, try to direct them in an easy way for them to understand what they have to do and make sure you have lots of patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Client I would never forget is one patient I had at a facility. We would talk and talk. He'd give me advices of what to do, what not to do. He pretty much became more like family to me. He was a very nice guy. Anything he needed, I would be there. If he wouldn't mind, I'd still go visit him. We bonded a lot. I met all his family. Very nice guy. He was someone that I could go if I had a problem, he'd tell me, "Oh yeah, well this and that." Very nice guy. He was in his 50s so he was pretty-- we got along pretty well.
