Hi, my name is Angalique, I live in Hayward, CA and I've been a caregiver for 3 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I always wanted to work in the medical field. Being a young girl, I wanted to become a doctor, a neonatologist, I always felt like caregiving would put my foot in the door, and then eventually I would be able to work my way up to becoming a doctor.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be you have to be passionate about what you're doing. If you're passionate about caregiving and being in the medical field, then go for it. If this is not your passion, then it won't work. You have to be caring, loving, have sympathy, empathy. That has to be your calling.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was this lady I was working with named Virginia. She was so full of life, she loved to dress up, get her hair done, nails done, even if she was in the house. She just liked to be fashionable and looked so nice. That is somebody I will never forget because there were many times when she would have her high heels on, walking around the house. We would flat iron her hair, curl it up, do her makeup, put her jewelry on, and she just loved to get made up.
