Hi my name is Angela and I live in San pedro,CA. I have been a caregiver for seven years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my brother, Eric Morgan, he was handicapped and he had always needed help with things. I helped with the family. Also I've helped personal friends and other acquaintances with family members that needed help throughout the years. So I've been doing this on and off and just recently to the extent of care giving to my mother who unfortunately did pass away. So I've found it very rewarding and it's something that I really want to do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be that be extremely patient, be a very good listener. Try to understand how the client feels as far as wanting to have certain things their way. Just trying to be upbeat as much as possible and just letting them know that you really, really care and it's important to you that they are happy.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I never would forget is my mother. She seemed extremely scared and afraid of all the things that were going on with her at the time when she was going through a difficult time. I could see that by me helping her and being there for her, that it helped so much and made her so happy that it made me happy. I know that she just got so much better knowing that there's somebody there that she can trust, that she can talk to and spend time with, and that made her happy and helped her to get through some difficult times.
