Hi, my name is Angela. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I have been a caregiver for 19 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was abused and neglected my entire life and it inspired me to want to be nice to others and not to treat people the way that I was treated. So I choose the path of taking care of my elders. And I have also moved a 92-year lady into my home that I didn't know. I took care of her for ten months on hospice until she passed away in my home.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to only go into this line of work as caring for people, if it's something that you truly have the heart and the desire to do and the patience to be able to take care of somebody else.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is the 92-year-old that I moved into my own personal home and I was her caregiver 24 hours a day, seven days a week for approximately ten months while she was on hospice. It was very tough towards the end, but I did it with love and passion the entire time and I would do it over again in a heartbeat.
