Hi, my name is Anna. I live in Baltimore, MD and I have three years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver in 2011. It was a recession. I was unemployed and one older man in my community needed help. He was almost 100 years old and he was rejected from the hospital after burning himself when he tried to warm up his dinner. I was asked to do it for a month but it happened that I stayed with this gentleman as live-in caregiver for three years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be very patient with that client and to follow his wills and his needs to the extent that is reasonable. If this point would be fulfilled, everything will go well.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget is Mr. Walter. He was almost 100 years old when I started to be his caregiver. At the age of 102, he got married. He married 72 years old woman because he fell in love and in spite of concerns of his family and also his friends.
