Hi! My name is Anna. I live in Sacramento, CA and I have over 10 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my great granny, she was the world to me, and I had seen how she was being treated, and I want to treat people better. I want them to have a good ending.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, you have to have a lot of love, compassion, and patience. They don't want to be treated like babies. You have to really learn who they are. The best thing to do is to take the time to really get to know them. They want to be treated like a person, not a child.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one I had recently. She did not get along with anyone else. Her dementia was really bad, she would kick, bite and and spit. But, I got to know her, she couldn't really say my name or anything like that, but when I walked into her room, she would light up when she see me. Like she knew who I was, and she sleeps better when I'm there. She would hold my hand and just fall asleep. And she was just lovely. We had a couple of rough days, but they were mostly good. I'm going to miss her a lot. She was really sweet.
