Hi, my name is Annabelle. I live in San Jose and I've been a caregiver for nine years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I've been for a caregiver because I love to take care of the elderly, the sick, and the disabled. I was took care of my grandmother. She was sick. I realized that it makes me feel happy doing that. It makes me feel self-fulfilled.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to new caregiver is that she should be very compassionate, very patient, kind, sensitive, and should always make the new client feel comfortable around her. She should be very observant and see the needs or look out for the needs of the new client. The body language of the new client will speak for her and, in that way, new caregiver will know.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I would never forget is Katie. She is a female that weighs 280 pounds. She's large and she's a difficult one. The agency told me about her, that other caregivers don't last long working for her. She just like works there for a day or a week and then after that, they would reassign and give up. So I started with her. First, I was scared then later on, after working for her for several months, became friends and I became a confident to her. So she would go to sleep, she would feel comfortable with me. She would go to sleep holding my hand. When she passed away, I was so devastated
