Hi, my name is Antoinette. I live in Bay Point, California. I've been a caregiver for eight dedicated years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am passionate and caring and very patient in what I do, and I love caregiving. I also was a caregiver for my mom, and my dad, and my grandparents when I was younger. And so being a caregiver was my calling, and very compassionate in what I do. I take everything seriously as far as caring for that person. And it is just a joy and a passion and I love what I do. I work for IHSS and I've been with them for a long time. I have three clients that I take care of. And I love taking care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice that I give a brand new caregiver is to be very empathetic, very patient. Do not show any irritation. Be well rested and organized. And make sure that whatever proper care they have, that you do it with compassion and you always keep the client happy. And if you actually enjoy what you do as a caregiver, it'll all come naturally to you to give them the proper and the wonderful care.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I will never forget is Frederico. I no longer take care of him, but the fondest memories that I have of him and me being his caregiver is that even though I took care of him, we also had fun doing errands. We enjoyed each other's company. Our communication was open as far as getting along great. And we would always laugh and talk and share our life stories. And so he will always be remembered as a person that I took care of. And I take care of all my clients as if they were my true family. And I always enjoy laughing with them and that the relationship that I have with each client is personable. That I am a happy person and I just love caregiving and very empathetic so it comes natural to me.
