Hi, my name is April. I live in Sacramento, CA and I have approximately 4 years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after taking care of my mom after she had an accident. And at that point, I had a lot of her neighbors asking for my help, and then I decided to go to school to get my CNA license.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to let the client make a lot of their own choices, and then guide them as you go along, make sure they're not in any danger, but it's really important that they are able to make a lot of their own decisions.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was able to be very energetic about doing exercises. She had physical therapy coming in, and she was recovering from surgery but part of that was for her to do all of the listed exercises, and she did it and she recovered, and it was really rewarding for me as her caregiver.
