Hi, my name is Arentria. I live in Stockbridge, GA and I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because after studying and having hands-on experience with one on one before I got my certification with geriatrics and those who are mentally disabled, I just grew a passion and a love for it and that's how I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to show compassion for the client. Be understanding and be patient because sometimes it can be a time-consuming job and patience is very key when it comes to handling new client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable client would be Mr. Ryan. He was a paraplegic but he was so free spirited and then despite his condition, he was always on cloud 9. I was making jokes with him and said to him, "I wasn't coming to work." He'd say, "You better come to work." I say, "I ain't coming to work because I ain't going to do with you today." And he would say, "If you don't come to work, I'm going to whoop you." And it was just so funny because I just grew that bond with him that if I wasn't at work, he didn't want anybody else to take care of him. It was just too funny because he would tell me he was going to whoop me and he couldn't even get out the bed. But he was just so free-spirited and he just touched me and I still remember him to this day.
