Hi. My name is Asha. I live in Ontario California, and I've been a caregiver for six plus years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother inspired me to. When I was in high school, I used to help take care of my great-grandmother until she passed. After that, I pretty much continued to caregive after that.
What advice would you give a new caregiver?
My advice for another caregiver would to be very patient with your clients or residents because they all come in different shapes and sizes and they do require a lot of attention. And you never know, you might actually gain some type of wisdom from them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. Tanner. This client, he had dementia. I was caring for him for about two years until the dementia got really bad and he had to eventually go to an elderly home. But the most memorable thing about him is that he was always so light-hearted and full of spirit, and he just enjoyed listening to music. And he taught me a lot about life and what it has to offer. So I really appreciate working for him for as long as I could.
