Hi! My name is Ashley. I live in Vallejo, CA, and I've been a caregiver for about six years now.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I saw my grandma and some of my family members go to nursing school, and I see how they are caring for people, and it make me want to be the same way, the care and their love for people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would to be, if this is not something that you really want to do, then don't do it. Have a lot of patients and learning more about your patients, so that way you can get really close with them, and know what it is that you're going to be doing with them. But if you're not interested in taking care of people and looking after people, then this is something that you wouldn't sign up to do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The clients I will never forget would be Verner and Shirley, because I always made sure that they were well taken care of, and that's what made them always want to come back to me and remember me. So, a moment I remember with those two are always being in the car with them, taking them to their doctor's appointments, and them sharing their stories with me. They're much older, so we had a lot of memorable moments getting to know one another on a different level.
