Hi, my name is Autumn. I live in Fort Worth, TX and I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because in high school I used to work with people that were disabled for extra credit and volunteer credit and I just fell in love with it immediately. Like off the top, I loved it and I wanted to keep on doing it. So after high school, I kept on doing it and I had not stopped.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be do not give up and I say that because this job can be very hard at times, but it's so worth it in the end. You become connected with so many people, you become connected with all of your clients and it's so worth it in the end. You get so much experience, it's great and it's a blessing. This job is definitely a blessing.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Loretta. She gave me the blues when I first met her. She's very, very mean to everybody that she met. But over time, she became such a loving person. She gave me hugs, she opened up to me and I felt connected to her the most. I still love her, I still go visit her every weekend and every time she sees me, she just opens up and it's happy. But I feel so special because she's only like that with me.
