Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hello, I'm Avelina I live in San Francisco, California, and I'm working as a caregiver for seven years - three years as a CNA and four years as a home care administrator. I become a caregiver because I like to take good care of the elderly, and I took care of my husband when I was in the buildings, and then I took care of my mom. I like the job being a caregiver because I'm a caring person.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I never forget is a 92 year-old lady that I took care for three years. My work is to assist her. She's ambulatory. She has a little bit dementia. I do all the meals for her, prepare the medications, and assist her in bathing.
What makes you a great caregiver?
What I think makes me a good caregiver because I treat my clients as my own family, and I do all my best for her, for my client. Everything that I can do for the goodness of my client is I can do it.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver - don't put in your mind that you are doing your job, just put it in your mind that you're taking care of your own family, and then love your client as much as you can.
When I help my client to regain her self-confidence and she is able to walk.
