Hi, my name is Axellen. I live in Tracy, CA and I have been a caregiver for a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandma. She had cancer and I quit my job. I started helping her. I took her to her doctor's appointments. I reminded her of her medicines. I would give her a shower every morning. Fed her. I was cooking for her. I was there for her. I was there for her every step of the way. That's why I want to make caregiver my career. That's why I love helping people. And I did it for about a year.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be a good listener and care. If you don't love to help people, this job is not for you because those people, they have other issues. They have a lot of problems and they need someone to care for them, to live with them, and someone to care for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Astrid, my grandma. She was really funny. I was taking her all the time to the park and she was telling me stories about old times because she was 73 and she would tell me a lot of stories about old time when they were working on the park. And I learned a lot from her and I'm pretty grateful and we were sometime watching animation. She really loved it and it was really funny because she was really old and she loved animation.
