Hi, my name is Ayanna. I live in Yoakum, TX. I have two years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I worked in dietary healthcare field for more than 15 plus years. However, I was a caregiver for only two years. And I see the elderly, and I've worked with all groups of people, children, adolescents. I've worked with the elderly. And I just have a heart and compassion for these groups of people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, pay close attention to your client. If they have signs and symptoms, you need to pay close attention and detail to them. Listen to them. Listen to their story. Most of the elderly they like for you to listen to their stories and they like to tell you what's going on in their life. So try to listen to what they're saying at that moment in time.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Diane. I remember Diane had a crush on Larry. It was so hilarious and so funny because Diane would be very protective of Larry. And she always thought I liked Larry. And I would tell her, "Diane, Larry is a human being, and Larry can talk to whoever he feels or he chooses to talk to. So, please don't get offensive about me talking to Larry." I have talked to Larry because I have to see, and Larry was also a client. They called themselves going together, but I have not. But Diane was funny. She was a very protective person.
