Hi, my name is Barbara. I live in El Monte, CA and I have five years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother was a caregiver. And also, I had two friends that needed help, and so I got into the profession to help out my friends. And I enjoyed working with the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be you have to have a lot of compassion, patience, kindness. Be a good listener, and most importantly, be a good friend to the person that you're taking care of.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Esperanza. We could sit and talk. She would tell me about her childhood. She told me about her life. We would laugh together, cry together. A memorable moment was when she told me about her family and the struggles they had to come to America. So, we had a lot of good times, and I really enjoyed her company as much as she enjoyed mine.
