Hi, my name is Barbara. I live in Van Nuys, CA and I've been caregiving for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love working with people and I believe, once you've made a difference in someone's life, like a positive impact, it makes you feel good. I will be happy at the end of the day, knowing I made someone happy, also. Thank you.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, first of all, love what you do and be patient with the elderly. Communication and listening are the keys. Also, make sure that the elderly or your client is comfortable, like creating a friendly environment for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Lila. She was an artist back then, but lost all her interest in doing art. I tried to put her back to schedule, and tried to get her into drawing, colouring and painting again. And before we knew it, she was painting again. Everytime I went in to see her, we would do this together and she loved it, she was so happy that I got her back into painting. And it was the most memorable thing, that I was able to get her back into painting, into something she loved so much. I was so happy. Thank you.
