Hi! My name is Barbara. I live in Santa Clarita, CA, and I've been a caregiver for just a little over a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, my elderly mother was in a position in her life that she needed assistance, so I made a decision to retire from my current position, and start caring for her.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to show extreme compassion, patience, and understanding. The elderly people are going through a new phase in their life, and it's very hard for them sometimes to accept that they're losing the capabilities that they had as younger person.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my mother, who is the current patient that I am caring for. It's been a very rewarding experience, something I never thought that I would have an interest in. It's very challenging. I love the challenge. I love the reward. I enjoy giving someone in need, companionship, and assistance for whatever they need to have during this phase of their life.
