Hi! My name is Barbara. I live in the city of Ventura, CA and I have six years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a passion for the elderly. I grew up with my grandma and my grandfather. I took care of my granddad and I just have a passion for the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, that's the most important thing. That is my philosophy. To be patient, loving, very helpful, attentive and kind.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Jean. I remember, once, I was giving her a bath and she told me, "Why you didn't become a nurse, Barbara?" And I said, "Jean, I always wanted to be a nurse when I was a little girl but, unfortunately, I did not." And she said, "Do you know what? You'd be a good nurse. And guess what? It's not too late, Barbara. It's not too late. You are so patient with me."
