Hi! My name is Beverly. I'm from Pacheco, CA, and I've been a caregiver for almost two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love taking care of other people, especially taking care of the elderly people. I grew up around my grandparents, I love taking care of older people. They teach me about their history, about what they did in their lives. And I really like doing this job for them, like taking care of them, because it makes a difference in someone's life.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, especially if they're not in the mood, be sensitive about their feelings. You know they're getting old, and they're feeling some pain, that's why they're acting like that. And, love the one you're taking care of. Be kind to them, treat them as a human being. Treat them as your family member.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Annabelle. Annabelle was 95 years old when she passed away. She passed away because she was really old. She had a big sore on her bottom, and she was really weak, but she was a fighter. Even though she was really weak, that she can die anytime, she was still fighting to see her sister in San Francisco. When she came back to San Diego, after five days, she died. And it made me realize, that life is short, but if you make your life good, then it's going to be worth it. I'll never forget her. She was a fighter.
