Hi, my name is Bianca. I live in Brownsville, TX and I have been a caregiver for about 3 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver mainly because of my schooling, which is for child psychology and psychopathology. So this is an extra step of what I'm learning aside from the stuff that they're not showing me from school. So I figured it would have helped and it actually has. I learned a lot in the last three years that I haven't learned in college yet.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to just be patient. A lot of clients are different from others. Not all of them are going to be the same and what I've learned, I just be patient to work with them. You'll eventually get the hang of it. It's not that difficult. You just have to be patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Max, during my first couple of years in college. This was my first job and I was very frustrated with school and then having to take care of three grown men. It was very difficult. And he would teach me step by step on what other caregivers would do. It made my job a little easier. His dad was very helpful as well.
