Hi, my name is Bobbie. I live in Long Beach, CA, and I have been a caregiver for a little over 2 years now.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help and take care of old people and I believe that caregiving is a rewarding job. I'm very empathetic and caring and would treat my client like I would my own grandparent.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to any caregiver would be they would have to be patient and caring. Elderly people would be at the stage where they cannot do things on their own anymore, and that is the reason why they need help.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget is Nancy. She has Alzheimer's and a high level of paranoia and she would never remember my name. And every day, I would have to remind her what my name is, but she remembers my face very well. She would only be comfortable with other people unless I am there, so I would have to be the one to take her to doctor's appointment and salon appointment and any other stuff. And she got so attached to me that she would not eat food unless I'm the one who prepared it.
