My name is Brenda, I live in Irving, and I have 11 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother fell ill and I wanted to take care of her. I just continued to give her care all these years and to other families in need the same way I was back then when my mother became ill.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be " Take your time, and treat the patient or resident as a loved one in your own family. Remember to give respect, let them have choices, and treat them with dignity.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Doris. Doris would stay up with me all night long when I was at work. I would give her snacks and she would hold my hand and rub my arm and tell me how much she loved me for the entire time that I was there. She would not let me out of her sight. After I left for the day, that's when she would go ahead and go to bed.
