Hi! My name is Brent. I live in Sierra Madre, CA and I have ten years experience. I'm not certified or anything like that but I do have experience in regards to taking care of the elderly and making sure everything is comfortable for them.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I get a certain amount of satisfaction, just understanding that people are comfortable. I don't want to say that their lives are coming to an end, but I think something like that needs to be approached in a very delicate situation. And I have the type of personality where I enjoy speaking with the elderly, and making sure that all their needs get taken care of.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, one is keep an open mind and realize that people in these sort of circumstances don't always pretty much respond in a positive manner because on their end, they're not quite aware of the needs they need. And sometimes they feel like they're a burden.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is, one is my grandfather, who passed away, God, about 10 years ago. And the recent one is my grandmother, who is actually living in the house right now. But the most memorable experience I had was during the last two weeks, when my grandfather was alive, he was alert and able to communicate very well. And I was able to talk to him about World War II and I'm kind of a World War II history buff.
