Hello! My name is Breona. I live in Grapevine, TX and I've been a caregiver for 2 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, my father, he had cancer. And he was an older man. He was in his 70s. I took care of him. And he passed away in 2013. So, I came to realize that being a CNA was for me because I used to take care of my father. I have a story behind it. I love what I do. I love taking care of my patients. I treat them like family.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to keep your resident clean and make sure they're changed so that they don't get bedsores. And make sure, you treat them like you want to be treated. Treat them like family. Interact with them. Tell them they're beautiful. Help them with their hair, nails, or whatever it might be. Don't ever make your patient feel like you're neglecting them or anything. Be mindful and respectful because these are people and we care about them a lot.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mrs, Hazel. Mrs. Hazel was very uplifting. She would always talk to you. She was just a very, very, very intelligent woman, taught me a lot. She taught me a lot herself. And I really will miss her.
