Hi, my name is Breyana. I live in Whittier, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.

How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver due to, going to high school and working with special needs children just helping them, and guiding, and learning from them, and then also being at home, having that immediate love and attention, because nobody else wanted to become our caregiver, so I volunteered at a young age to be her caregiver. So I learned over the years just by watching and listening little by little cooking meals for her, helping her with her medicine, taking her bath, and just loving and giving her attention.

What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be happy and open to them. Don't be so shy and scared. I understand at first it's kind of nerve-wracking because you don't want to mess up. You want to do a good job. I just feel that you just be open, happy, joyful to put positive vibes around you and others. That way you get your job done, and everything goes smooth for your point of view. Put bad vibes out, and if you think wrong, bad things will follow you, and it will be a cloud over you. So you want to have good vibes, be positive. Just always be positive. That's the number one thing.

Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is probably my aunt Amy. Her best friend was a caregiver, so I learned from her. She let me help her and be with her. When she wasn't there, I was always taking care of her as her caregiver. Her name was Asley. I was always there for her, guiding and helping her. Just being a caregiver to her. When I was eighteen years old I didn't know what I was going to do, but little by little I learned how to be there, help her, watched her.
