My name is Brianna. I live in the city of Duarte, CA and I have 5 years of care giving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver due to a family member who I was care giving for the last three years. She was sick with dementia and high blood pressure as well as hallucinations and I was care giving for her. I recently changed my major to nursing and got a job in a facility in Duarte, California as a caregiver, and I fell in love with my residents and I fell in love with what i have to do for them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience and consistency. Most people who need the care giving have routines or they're used to certain things a certain way so having patience is very, very important as well as definitely staying consistent and on top of being able to know what they do and don't like.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is John and he is a current client. He was recently diagnosed with leukemia and I am very, very upset about it because he has been one of my favorite clients so far. I do and will miss him and with the stage he is he's going soon so I very much will remember him. He had his good good days and his bad days but he was very cheery and he always had good jokes. He was very easy to work with and he was very understanding when it was time for us to do things for him that he might not have liked but he needed it done and he knew. So John is one of my most memorable clients.
