Hi, my name is Brianna. I live in Moreno Valley, CA and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love helping others, generally being there for them and supportive. My family member became very sick and I was the one who supported her and helped her through her time with me.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to always put your best foot forward. Make efforts to actually be there for the person and know that you are their support system. Be happy, energetic and loving, because you bring that energy to people when they're sick, when they're upset, when they're down. It's always good for you to be the one to lift them up, so take your time, be wise and kind with others.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Priscilla. I remember I was going through some family issues with the death and all, and I still managed to make it to work. And the first thing she did was notice my appearance. I tried to leave things at home, but I was very hurt and sad, and she actually sat me down, and talked to me, and generally gave me her feelings about how good of a person I am to her, and that she don't want to see me down, and cracking jokes and just real loving in the moment. It made me feel so much better. I'll never forget that moment.
