Hi! My name is Brittney. I live in Lake Elsinore, CA and I have six years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was raised by my grandparents. And as they got older, I began to notice them changing so I wanted to take care of them just as they took care of me. And I've always been a very caring person, so I like to help others and to make sure that they have the best care of life.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to learn your client to the best of your ability. Because learning everything about them, like learning their little noises they make, what it means. Certain gestures and even noises that they make, they're communicating with us and you need to be able to understand what they're saying, so that you can help them to the best of your ability.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ricky. He was a gentle giant and he did go through a little phase where he was physically violent, but he never had any violence towards me. I was always his kind of rock or safe haven type of thing. I would take him out, talk to him. He was non-verbal but he did understand quite a bit.
