Hi, my name is Carmen. I live in San Francisco, CA and I have caregiving experience for 22 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver for 22 years because I love to help the people and to help the children. My mom, I helped her for many, many years for my grandma. So that's why I love to work with that kind of people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice is to give confidence, love, to feel safe.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I met her. Her daughter introduced me to her. She was sitting in a chair, and I went to tell her my name is Carmen. and then I talked to her. So she said "Oh okay. So I feel you will be my caregiver, and I need a person like you." And then I worked for her for six months. Then after six months, she died. But when I was working for her, she was so nice to me. I gave her love. I gave her safety, everything. So that's why when she died, her daughter sent me a letter. She told me before her mom died, her mom told her, "Oh Carmen, was beautiful and nice caregiver to me. I feel safe with her. She was so very nice to me. She helped me a lot." and, then she said that she felt so safe with me. So that's my history. I feel good because some people they don't say anything you know. She was so very nice to me.
