Hi! My name is Carol. I live in Desert Hot Springs, CA. I've been a caregiver for seven years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love taking care of people. It doesn't matter what needs that they have, disability or the elderly, I just have the compassion and patience and many people have said they thought I was a nurse. And I love what I do. I love being a caregiver and hope to continue for a long time.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, always be kind to your clients or patients and enjoy them immensely. Never, never get upset with them. And just love what you do. And treat them as you would treat your own family members. Love them dearly.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is an elderly couple. And specifically, the gentleman, the husband, needed so much care. Had a hard time to walk. Memory loss. Was pretty much losing everything. And he was the kindest, kindest man I ever took care of. And every time I helped him he thanked me. And when the assignment was ended he hugged me and said, "Thank you for being my angel caregiver." He made me want to cry and I appreciate my job more and more. It was a beautiful, beautiful couple. I loved taking care of both of them. She was the sweetest as well.
