Hi! My name is Carol. I live in Portland, TX, and I have at least three years experience as a caregiver for seniors.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after completing a certification program as a medical assistant, and I just kind of happened into a position with Brookdale Senior Living Solutions. And I got my experience partly from them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver, primarily, is to be extremely patient with your seniors or whoever you're providing care for. When you speak with them, speak slowly, be a good listener, show compassion when it's needed, and always have a smile.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a man named, John. He is now 92. He's diabetic. Required blood sugar testing a couple times a day. He was intelligent, a good communicator, and his main need was companionship. He loved to share stories from his wife.
